Why should you exfoliate and how often should you do it? What areas should I exfoliate? These are some questions I've gotten recently and I decided I would make a post to help give some insight. Depending on how dry your skin is, you may only need to exfoliate once a week. My favorite places to exfoliate regularly are my heels of my feet, my elbows, my hips where I have stretchmarks, and on the back of my thighs where I have cellulite. Occasionally, before I tan or apply a self-tanner I will exfoliate my whole body. This makes for an even application of self-tanner and reduces splotching. If you have cracked skin or peeling skin, it's good to remove the dead skin in a gentle manner and sugar scrubs are perfect. Sugar scrubs are made of granulated sugar or brown sugar and sometimes salt. Sugar is more gentle than salt and is a mild exfoliant. My sugar scrubs come in different grits because sometimes it's not necessary to have an extremely gritty scrub. My sugar whips are made of a foaming soap which gets whipped and then I add my rich moisturizers which is nice if you live in a humid environment you may not need lotion or moisturizer after you rinse it off. I recommend exfoliating at least once a week because this removes the dead skin cells and allows new skin cells room to generate, making your skin softer, longer. Exfoliating also helps reduce the appearance of stretch marks, cellulite, and can remove scar tissue if done regularly.
